If you’re looking for a simple way to take payments in real life without expensive subscriptions, Payable Kiosk for Square may be what you’ve been waiting for. The Payable programming team just took the Overall Win in Square’s latest Developer Hackathon with the design for a kiosk- or QR-code based payment system that allows users to take information from a Google Form and turn it into a rich merchant experience, no coding necessary.
Payable Kiosk magically transforms any Google Form into a custom payment-capable self-service kiosk. Using Google Apps including Forms and Sheets that small sellers already love and use daily, sellers can now design and build their own kiosks. After each submission, the data and payment status is stored in a connected Google Sheet to keep sellers organize and allow for linking the data into additional workflows.
Sellers can either use Square’s terminal to take payments, or use the Payable Kiosk platform to generate a QR code that customers can scan to get to a checkout page on their phones.
The Square Developer Hackathon 2023 had dozens of entries, but the Payable Kiosk was the top choice for the judges.
“Itβs exciting to have taken the overall win,” says Ryan May, founder of Payable. “This was our first end-to-end app built together as a team with our new programmers. It was great team building and it was cool to have the freedom to work on a completely new product.”
The current kiosk solutions available are often too confusing and expensive for the average small business owner to consider setting up. “The Payable Kiosk is very flexible,” May added. “We love giving other people tools and seeing how they will use them. With all the different combinations, we can’t wait to see how people use it.”
If you want to create a kiosk for yourself, Payable Kiosk is currently available in beta mode. You can get set up in Test mode, then ask for permission to get started accepting payments. There are already two sellers who will be using it for in-person and online checkouts this month, and the team at Payable is hard at work adding even more features to create a more rich and comprehensive kiosk checkout experience.
