Google Form design and setup is simple, but making it feel professional can be tricky. Using a Google Form to collect information (and the Payable add-on to collect cash!) is a simple alternative to setting up a website to take orders or registrations. But to make a Google Form that feels professional and business-like, there are a few extra design steps you can take to level up the way your Form looks for your clients.
๐ Add hyperlinks
A relatively new addition to Google Forms is the ability to add hyperlinks within your questions and text. Previously, designers had to simply paste the full URL of outside sites that had useful information, or PDFs that needed to be downloaded by the client. Now, you can make that a simple link rather than making the Form messy with long URLs.
๐ป Design your own header image
Don’t stick with the default headings in Forms. Using a free design website like Canva, you can easily design a header for your Form using their free Templates, adding your own logo and information as appropriate. The Collingwood Off-Road Cycling Club’s registration page is a great example of this:
๐ Break your Form into sections
If you need a lot of information, break your Form into sections (just click ‘add section’ in the same place you add questions. This creates a feeling of flow in your Form rather than a client feeling like they’re endlessly scrollingโand it makes the Payable checkout integration seem more seamless, since that takes your clients to a new page in the Form.
๐ Have a friend proofread and test your Form!
A bonus tip: If you’re a side hustler, small business, coach, teacher or someone using Google Forms for the first time, it’s a good idea to ask a friend for a quick read-through and to test your flow. They’ll likely catch a few grammatical errors or typos that you missed (it’s easy to miss seeing errors in your own work), and they can catch if there’s an issue with your checkout process before you go live. The fastest way to make a Form seem less professional is having it full of grammatical errors, or having it finish with a message that doesn’t make sense for your audience.
